Now that my rats are used to having their cage door left open and coming and going as they please, they sleep on top of their cage under their blanket...

Doesn't mean i can't bloody well try and save as many as i can, thank you very much certain unamed-person.

Well guys, i was at the pet store near my house the other day (unfortunately the only decent place to get mice around here, we have no breeders). Normally i absolutely avoid them cuz i can't handle seeing all the critters knowing that most of them will end up as reptile food :( but a friend insisted we stop in as she wanted to get some more goldfish. So.. I'm there and i'm like ok, i just won't look at the mice.. Of course my OTHER friend is over at mice ooing and awing at their cuteness and is like, "Come see how cute they are!!!"

*eye roll*

Please give me feed back guys! Because I'm not the best at organising i would love for anyone else to hop on the bandwagon and help me out with this project!!

Well, us people who adopted rats from the Petaluma rescue were all asked to take some photos as an update and to prove and promote the amazing personality and good companionship qualities of rescue rats, as they often get left out :( This prompted me to do a photo shoot of all my boys!

Unfortunately I was 'prompted' at about 2 am and even with all the lights on, there was no way to get enough light to not use the camera flash so the pictures aren't the impressive photographical genius I was going for.. But they are cute ;) And of any rat person can of course appreciate that! So, i thought i'd share. My boyfriend took them, and he's a good phototographer, but I'll post artsy ones when we actually have some lighting to prove it lol..

Prepare to be slain by the cuteness!Collapse )

OK, so i know this is SO long but ever since i got my rats so many people have been asking me about them and have been interested in getting some of their own. So.. I figured i'd make a guide that was easy to follow and something to hand to pet stores even and potential rat owners who mean well but don't have a clue. I've been working on this for awhile and have learned a lot in the process. If anyone could read through it andsee if there's anything that doesn't seem correct or that i should add that would be amazing. Otherwise, for anyone who's a new rat owner and wants all the info in one place.. There ya go :) Also, if you're neither, scroll to the bottom and read the'neat random facts' section. I learned a lot writing that myself!
Thnx again.

(ignore the crappy formatting ;) I promise it's actually all well laid out in the words document i have it in.)

Here it is!

A couple of months ago a friend of mine asked me if I knew anybody who could take two rats because her sister is starting college in the fall and can't/doesn't want to take them with her. I offered to take one of them, since I'm technically not supposed to have the two that I have now :X Sooo...a couple of days ago I went to pick her up, only to find two little PEWs in a large fishtank with pine litter and absolutely no toys. The bigger of the two [I was picking up the smaller one] had a large, dark lump under one of her arms and a huge cateract in her right eye. I felt horrible leaving her there.. If I had the money/space, I definitely would've brought her home as well, but unfortunately I lack both at the moment..

Anyway, long story short, I have a new rat. Her name is Neera, she's probably around a year and a half old...and appears to have a respiratory infection. She's also spent most of her time sleeping and is wary of new foods.
I have an appointment with the vet later this week...in the mean time, any suggestions?

Got my petaluma babes! I ended up kinda.. adopting three.. Instead of the planned two.. And the bf was a *little* mad but i just plopped them on him and their scurrying and fuzziness won him over in seconds :) I also FINALLY took pics of my cage set up! It's a little empty looking in the bottom at the moment cuz i was doing some cleaning, but at least you can see the monsterousness of it!

Fuzzy babies, my cages, more of my older boysCollapse )

Too cute not to post :P
Spook always sits at the bars [usually with her chin on her paws] and just stares at me. Completely still, except for her little pink nose, for minutes at a time [or until Rune goes and stands on her head].

Woo took me a while to realize I needed to introduce myself. I'm Vurmin (or Goblin) whichever you prefer. I am 24 I live in Georgia (USA) and I have two daughters. Cailin and Sarina. I own 7 rats in all. 2 males (Charlie and Peter Pan) and 5 females (Hedwig, Marla, Boo, Clover & Blue). I would put up pics, but I have no idea how to do the LJ cut things >.<

I have pics of them all in my normal LJ though.
